John Mead operates at the intersection of climate strategy, construction reality, and materials science.
From climate, he takes the urgency, the accounting rigor, prioritizing carbon outcomes embedded in permanent infrastructure rather than transient interventions.
From construction, he takes the constraints seriously: cost, schedule, risk, specifications, procurement, and what actually gets built.
From science, he takes validation, standards, testing, and mechanisms because claims without evidence do not scale in this industry.
He works deliberately in the overlap of these arenas engineering solutions from inside the system that exists.
Director of R&DSean Muir, PhD
Sean Muir bridges the fields of materials science, R&D execution, and the systems that keep products, projects, and teams moving.
From R&D, he brings a deep understanding of how materials behave at the nano and micro scale, using structure and chemistry to design experiments and solutions that actually work outside the lab.
From engineering and design, he takes seriously the macro-scale demands structural performance, finish, and feel working with practitioners so new materials behave the way projects, products, and end users need.
From operations, sales, and marketing, he builds and maintains the tools Solid Carbon uses to track inventory, manufacturing, production, R&D, marketing, and pilot projects, keeping innovation tightly connected to how the business runs and grows.
Across all of this, he focuses on turning advanced materials research into reliable, repeatable results in the field, not just promising data on a slide.
Product Development EngineerMac Whitaker
Mac Whitaker is a jack of all trades, straddling the worlds of research and production.
As the main hands in the lab, he carries out concrete and materials testing, helping to design new products and validate Solid Carbon’s existing products in concrete.
As plant manager, he designs systems to solve complex problems and works hands on with the team to fabricate those solutions in house.
As concrete technician, he tests concrete at the job site and collects samples for lab analysis.
Driven by a passion for sustainability, Mac is happy to be working with Solid Carbon to make a difference in the built environment.
Production & Operations LeadSteve Rist
Steve is the boots on the ground for all things production. Drawing from a diverse professional background that includes residential and commercial construction and supply chain management, Steve facilitates the processes that take raw materials into a quality finished product ready for customers. In an industry where there is uncertainty and we are blazing new trails creativity, innovation and flexibility are key. These traits help Steve collaborate with fellow employees and business partners to solve problems and come up with practical solutions for complex hurdles.
