Job Summary:
SOLID CARBON is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Research Engineer specializing in Concrete Formulations and Biochar Processing, you will play a crucial role in advancing our research and development efforts. You will work on innovative projects aimed at optimizing concrete formulations, developing supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and synthetic aggregates, and refining thermal and mechanical processes for modifying the physical properties of biochar. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering or materials science, with a focus on sustainable construction materials and innovative processing techniques. This position will perform contract research for outside organizations as well as internal research, development, demonstration and deployment for Solid Carbon.
Responsibilities:
Conduct research and development activities to enhance concrete formulations, focusing on sustainability, durability, and performance.
Design and execute experiments to develop novel SCMs and synthetic aggregates for use in concrete production, utilizing advanced analytical techniques and computational tools.
Investigate thermal and mechanical processes to modify the physical characteristics of biochar, with the aim of optimizing its performance as a sustainable construction material.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify research priorities, develop project plans, and execute experiments according to established timelines and objectives.
Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific literature related to sustainable construction materials and biochar processing.
Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and regulatory agencies.
Participate in the development of intellectual property, including patents and trade secrets, to protect innovative technologies and processes developed by Solid Carbon.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Engineering, Materials Science, or related field with a focus on sustainable construction materials, biochar processing, or similar areas of research.
Strong background in concrete technology, including knowledge of cement chemistry, aggregate properties, and concrete performance.
Experience in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation using statistical methods and computational tools.
Proficiency in laboratory techniques for materials characterization, such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing.
Familiarity with thermal and mechanical processing techniques for modifying the properties of biochar, such as pyrolysis, activation, and densification.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and research findings to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment, with a strong commitment to excellence and innovation.
Prior experience in sustainable engineering, green building materials, or related fields is preferred.
